Before you book

  • Ask your doctor if you are fit to fly.
  • Ask the hospital which airport is nearest. The guide to cities lists them.
  • Some airlines ask for a medical form before they accept a patient. Ask the airline before you pay.

Book carefully

  • Choose a ticket that you can change. Treatment can take longer than planned.
  • Ask for a wheelchair or other help when you book. It is often free.
  • Check how much hand luggage you can take for your medicines.

On the day

  • Keep your medicines and medical reports in your hand luggage.
  • Carry a copy of the hospital letter and your visa approval.
  • Drink water and walk in the aisle when it is safe. This lowers the risk of blood clots.

Coming home

Ask the hospital when it is safe to fly back. Ask for a fit-to-fly letter if the airline needs one.

Sources

  • Ask your airline for its rules on patients who need medical clearance.
